HOW IT WORKS

1. Download the app.
Get the NM Route 66 Visit Widget app and start your journey. 

2. Sign up to get your first postcard.
Create a free account in the Route 66 Visit Widget app. Once you do, we'll send you an email with a link to claim your first postcard by mail. It's free!

3. Check in at locations.
Click on "Badges" and choose a challenge. Follow the Route 66 map and check in by scanning the challenge QR code at designated locations all across New Mexico.

4. Complete challenges and collect postcards
Visit stops in each city to earn your set of limited-edition New Mexico Route 66 postcards.

5. Pick up your postcards
After completing a challenge, visit one of our Postcard Pickup Locations to claim your set of postcards (one per traveler, while supply lasts):

GRAND PRIZE CHALLENGE 

Looking for even more adventure? Throughout the year, participants in the Route 66 Centennial Challenge will have multiple chances to win exclusive Route 66-inspired prizes, including custom-designed denim jackets and other commemorative gear. 

To qualify for the grand prize drawing, collect three themed trail badges in the New Mexico Route 66 app and then enter the giveaway. 

The giveaway runs throughout 2026, with four separate drawings held on the following dates:

  • January 30, 2026
  • June 1, 2026
  • August 30, 2026
  • November 11, 2026

Entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. MT on the day prior to each drawing to be eligible for that drawing.

No purchase necessary. Open to U.S. residents 18 and older. Full details and official rules available on the entry page.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • A: No! You can pick and choose what challenges you would like to do.  

  • A: No. Each player can only receive one set of postcards and one water bottle.  

  • A: You will receive a notification from the Visit Widget App that you have completed a challenge. 

  • A: You will get the initial postcard via mail just by downloading and signing into the app and filling in the address form. You need to do 10 check-ins in one postcard challenge to get the full set.  

  • A: Yes, but you can only claim one set of postcards. 

  • A: Ask for the code, which you can enter manually. 

  • A: You need to gain three trail badges to qualify for a water bottle. 

  • A: Look for the nearest pick-up location on the Visit Widget map. Here is a list of pick-up locations:

TERMS & CONDITIONS

  • The Route 66 Centennial Challenge ("the Challenge") is open to individuals who are 18 years of age or older at the time of entry. Employees, interns, or partners of New Mexico Magazine (NMM) and the New Mexico Tourism Department (NMTD), as well as their immediate family members (spouse, parents, siblings, and children) and household members, are not eligible to participate.

  • The Challenge begins on July 1, 2025 and ends on August 31, 2026 (“Challenge period”). All check-ins and challenge completions must occur within this timeframe to be eligible for prizes.

  • Participants must download the New Mexico's Route 66 Visit Widget App and register. A valid mailing address must be provided through the secure form on the official Route 66 Centennial Challenge page to receive initial postcard. Check-ins must be completed through the app at designated locations to qualify for prizes.

  • First postcard will be mailed within 2 weeks of registration. Additional postcards are collected by completing individual challenges. Postcards are non-transferrable and cannot be exchanged for cash or other prizes. Completed postcards can be picked up at the following locations:

  • To qualify for the Route 66 water bottle, participants must complete three themed challenges.

    To qualify for entry in the jean jacket drawing, participants must complete three themed challenges and tag us on social media using the hashtags #nmroute66 and #nmroute66trails.

  • Winners of the jean jacket drawing will be randomly selected from the qualifying entries. Winners will be notified via email and must respond within 10 days to claim their prize. If a winner does not respond within the timeframe, an alternate winner will be chosen.

  • Any information you submit as part of the Challenge will be used in accordance with NMM/NMTD’s Privacy Policy. The information you provide when you enter is provided to NMM/NMTD. Except where prohibited, you consent to the use of your name in any list of winners (if applicable) and/or for promotional purposes in any media without further payment or consideration.

  • In the event that the operation, security, or administration of the Challenge is impaired in any way, NMM/NMTD may, in its sole discretion, either: (a) suspend the Challenge to address the impairment and then resume the Challenge; or (b) award the prize(s) from among the eligible entries received up to the time of the impairment. NMM/NMTD reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify and seek damages from any individual who tampers with the operation of the Challenge, violates these Official Rules, or acts in a disruptive or unsportsmanlike manner. Failure to enforce any term of these Official Rules shall not constitute a waiver of that provision. In the event of a dispute, the authorized account holder of the e-mail address used to enter the Challenge will be deemed the owner. The Challenge is subject to federal, state, and local laws and regulations and is void where prohibited.

  • By participating in the Challenge, participants agree to release and hold harmless NMM/NMTD, its affiliates, partners, and employees from any liability, injury, loss, or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with participation in the Challenge or receipt of use of any prize.

    The Challenge is void where prohibited or restricted by law. NMM/NMTD reserves the right to cancel the Challenge or modify these rules at its discretion. In the event of a dispute regarding the winners, NMM/NMTD reserves the right to award or not award the prizes in its sole discretion.
