FATHER’S DAY PREGAME CATCH ON THE FIELD

“Baseball is such a family sport,” says Albuquerque Isotopes general manager John Traub, who estimates that between 1,000 and 1,500 people participate in the pregame catch on the field. “It’s fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, grandparents. They love being on the field.”

The Isotopes wear special Mariachis de Nuevo México uniforms as lowriders line up outside the park and parade the field. The first 3,000 fans receive a lowrider bobblehead designed by artists Joseph “Blast” Leyba and Rob Vanderslice. “There’s such a huge lowrider community here,” says Traub.
