AN IDEA THAT FLOURISHED INTO AN INITIATIVE IN 2006, the New Mexico Historic Women Marker Program celebrates  some of the many courageous women who helped shape the unique, multicultural history of New Mexico.

Through roadside markers, curriculum, public outreach, and traveling exhibitions, the program has been created to inspire future trailblazers to stand tall on the shoulders of women who built communities, educated children, cared for the land and its people, advanced art and thought, furthered science, and fought to preserve the rights and traditions of all New Mexicans.
