1 Better understand Baumann.
Gustave Baumann: The Artist’s Environment opens at the New Mexico Museum of Art’s Plaza Building on Friday, showcasing works from the museum’s collection that detail Baumann’s life, process, and inspirations. Organized in thematic displays, the exhibition explores the influence of Pueblo and Hispano cultures, his floral and still-life pieces, motifs of play and whimsy, modernist movements he borrowed from, and his understanding of Southwest archaeology. The exhibition, which runs through February 22, 2026, looks at Baumann’s legacy, both as an artist in New Mexico and as a cultural figure who is still referenced as a part of the canon of great artists who lived and worked here.
2 Go to a festival for a cause.
Making its debut at the Daleee at KTAOS Solar Center, in Taos, the She Rises Fest takes place with two full days of music on Friday and Saturday. With a mission to uplift and showcase women artists while raising money for Music Helps—a nonprofit that creates free programming and music lessons for kids—the 2025 festival includes an outdoor and indoor stage, sets from women musicians including Grammy-nominated folk singer/songwriter Eliza Gilkyson and rocker/bluegrass ensemble Big Richard.
3 Party, it’s summer!
Albuquerque’s Route 66 Summerfest kicks off the countdown to the Mother Road’s centennial anniversary with multiple stages and food trucks along Central Avenue between Girard Boulevard and Washington Street. Local businesses stay open late to join in the fun on Saturday, starting at 5 p.m. Headliners Ozomatli, a Los Angeles–based band that spans genres from hip-hop to funk, take the main stage at 8:30 p.m. There will be face painting, rock climbing, inflatable obstacle courses for kids, and tons of food, including El Taco Loco, Mighty Mike’s Meats, and Busy Bee Frozen Custard, and an array of artist booths selling handmade goods.
4 Enjoy jazz at the park.
Downtown Farmington’s Orchard Park hosts the Farmington Jazz Festival on Saturday from 8 to 10 p.m. It includes live performances from artists such as the Delbert Anderson Quartet, Julia Keefe, and the Third Hour Jazz Band. Hosted by the Northwest New Mexico Arts Council, the jazzy evening will move to the Totah Theater in case of rain.
5 Hunt for legends.
Get outdoors and search for Bigfoot in Cloudcroft during the Bigfoot Scavenger Hunt. The event, hosted by the New Mexico Rails-to-Trails Association, offers a two-mile jaunt for kids and novice hikers and a three-mile trail for more experienced adventurers. It starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday, when hunters will hit the trails, finding as many Bigfoot silhouettes as they can while marking their locations on a score sheet. At 1 p.m., the hunters with the most Bigfoot sightings will win trophies for each trail. The first 100 participants get a gift bag. Register your team here.
