1 Attend an opening reception.
Artists from the Institute of American Indian Arts’ MFA studio arts program show work at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Santa Fe at the exhibition Not Here, But There. It includes a variety of mediums by six artists whose work bridges the space between innovation and tradition, hence its title, which is a play on the phrase “neither here nor there,” meaning something that is not significant, reimagined as a reference to liminal and transitional spaces. See photography, weaving, site-specific installations, and listen to a sound installation as part of the exhibition, which opens Friday with a reception from 5 to 9 p.m. See it through June 15.
2 Bless the fields.
On Friday morning, the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum in Las Cruces marks the beginning of the growing season with a special community ritual, the Blessing of the Fields. Happening for the 25th time, the annual event starts at 10 a.m. with a procession through the museum and fields, a blessing of the on-site acequia, and the sharing of blessed bread. Led by Bishop Peter Baldacchino, processioners carry a bulto featuring San Ysidro, patron saint of farmers, created by local artist Virginia Maria Romero, and local school children join in. After the blessing, shop a plant sale at the museum’s greenhouse and get a start on your own garden.
3 See your favorite authors.
Some of the heaviest hitting names in the literary world come to Santa Fe this weekend during the Santa Fe International Literary Festival, which brings readings, author talks, thought-provoking conversations, and other book-centric events to the Santa Fe Community Convention Center from Friday through Sunday. This year the lineup includes Percival Everett, Miranda July, Viet Thanh Nguyen, Amy Tan, Terry Tempest Williams, Gabrielle Zevin, and many more. The 2025 schedule offers a special tribute to the late N. Scott Momaday (Kiowa), featuring a powerful cohort of authors on stage with his granddaughter, poet Natachee Momaday Gray. 4 Experience New Mexico’s oldest traditions.
On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Casa San Ysidro: the Gutiérrez/Minge House in Corrales is hosting Heritage Day. A celebration of local living traditions, the free event includes hands-on activities like tin making, demonstrations of wool spinning and weaving, colcha embroidery, and a blacksmith working a forge at the historic site, which marks its 150th anniversary this year. “Heritage Day is a way to really connect with the arts that are still vibrant in our community today,” says Aaron Gardner, site manager at Casa San Ysidro. “The event shows how important these arts are to our culture in New Mexico.” The festivities also include live music from northern New Mexican singer/songwriter Lara Manzanares and dances by the Acoma Pueblo Enchanted Dancers. In collaboration with the Corrales Historic Society, don’t miss the activities happening across the street at the Old San Ysidro Church as well.
5 Explore Magdalena’s art scene.

Stroll through town to visit open galleries and studios on a Saturday art walk before stopping by Warehouse 1-10, where six solo exhibitions share an opening reception with live music by Hieronymus Bogs at 7 p.m. Other art weekend activities include an art cruise showing public works along Main Street, book signings, and festive receptions at other spaces.
