When it comes to gifts, my wife, Kristin, likes experiences, while I enjoy more tactile things. When I heard about Paseo Pottery’s Suds + Mud Pottery Class, in Santa Fe, I thought we could both get what we want—a new experience for her and a memento of our evening for me. Did I mention there is also craft beer?
Angela Kirkman, a full-time volunteer, runs the class and cheerfully serves up your choice of suds from Tumbleroot Brewery, in Santa Fe. Hop on the potter’s wheel or take a stab at the hand-building station. I wasn’t very good at the latter, but I created two pieces on the wheel—a roughly pint-size cup that would hold a fine IPA and a small bowl to hold Kristin’s earrings.
By the end of the night, we had laughed at our mistakes and basked in our triumphs. All in all, a top-notch date night.
