“BACK IN THE 1980s AND 1990s, Nob Hill was the local retail destination in Albuquerque,” explains Jacob Fox. “But brick-and-mortar retail hasn’t been a super viable business option for a lot of people.” With the neighborhood’s history in mind and a desire to serve as an anchor space for the community, Fox opened the quirky And Stuff Retail Collective on Central Avenue in 2019. Located next to his Little Bear Coffee & Wine Bar, the shop is part of an effort to “create a symbiotic collection of businesses in one place,” he explains. “If you want, you could spend a whole day right there.”

Originally conceived as a collaborative space to offer a microfootprint for businesses that couldn’t afford a physical location, And Stuff has since pared down to a handful of local brands, including stationery and prints from Odd Daughter Paper Co., zippered pouches by Jen Fox Studio, and Southwest-inspired T-shirts and sweats from Windworn. “It’s an ever-evolving concept,” Fox says.

Shop manager and Constellation Vintage owner Lucy Gilster also sells an array of midcentury modern furniture and decor. For her, And Stuff is all about providing a rich browsing experience. “The thing I hear most is how much fun people have in the store,” Gilster says, “just looking around.”

Each time you stroll into And Stuff, you’re bound to find a new display of tropical houseplants, racks of local art, or thoughtful housewares. “There are so many makers doing cool stuff in Albuquerque and New Mexico,” Fox says. “We want to highlight them and support them as much as we can.”
