ONE OF THE LONGEST continuously operating diners on Route 66, Lindy’s Diner began in 1929 as the Coney Island Cafe. Steve Vatoseow’s father, Narke, bought the place in 1960 and renamed it after his business partner’s daughter. It’s been in the family ever since. Steve’s wife, Dawn, co-owns the business and works the front of the house, greeting and serving customers.
WE GET A LOT of tourists who take the Route 66 drive from where it originates to Santa Monica.
WE STILL HAVE the original tin ceilings, which you rarely see anymore. The diner has so much history. We’ve done 36 movies as a location.
WE STILL HAVE the Coney Island hot dog. We serve breakfast all day long.
IT’S NOT FROUFROU. It’s just a traditional diner, with milkshakes and homemade pie.
OUR FRIENDLY SERVICE is very important. We appreciate all the customers who come in. There are a million places they could go. We try to really treat people right and give them good value for their dollar. We’ve made a lot of friends over the years.
