HACIENDA DE LAS CRUCES, LAS CRUCES
This historic property has been lovingly maintained by owners Tamera and Eric Ahner for the last decade. They pride themselves on preserving the 1880s New Mexican adobe compound, which includes a surrounding wall that ensures privacy even in the midst of downtown. DON’T MISS: The largest of the four suites, Clara’s Nest has a hatch near the roofline built by original owner Clara Frenger, “so she could open it and welcome birds throughout the day,” Tamera says.
Two adobe buildings have been remodeled into seven hip suites bursting with personality. Proprietors Jody and Xochitl Wodrich spent a year and a half collaborating with local artists and artisans to create rooms whose beauty matches the surrounding mountains. In addition to modern amenities, one property uses traditional acequia irrigation and features copper tubs for soaking. DON’T MISS: Xochitl Wodrich has perfected the blueberry muffin, which you can enjoy each morning with a brew courtesy of the Coffee Apothecary.
Overlooking the Paradise Hills Golf Course on Albuquerque’s west side, the boutique hotel offers 16 fully renovated guest rooms and suites nestled away from the bustle of the city (though still conveniently nearby). “We have a wonderful location,” says manager Wesley Haydon. “In the mornings, we have the balloons over the golf course, and we have the sunsets in the evenings.” DON’T MISS: The inn partners with StrangeKind Ballooning, which books personalized hot-air excursions every morning.
