ACCESS TO THE OUTDOORS is a human right—yet it’s one not afforded to many youths. In 2019, the Outdoor Equity Fund was created as a first-of-its-kind program to get underserved New Mexico children outside. This initiative is one of many that supports the New Mexico Outdoor Recreation Division’s mission to increase equitable access to the outdoors for all New Mexicans. Through outdoor recreation and education programs funded by the Outdoor Equity Fund, the agency connects kids to land and water in order to create pathways into careers in the industry and encourage environmental stewardship for years to come.
