GEORGIA O’KEEFFE’S former stomping grounds near Abiquiú make for memorable learning. Ghost Ranch, located near the famous painter’s former home and studio, serves up workshops that range from plein air painting to pottery to memoir writing.

Artist Beverly Todd founded Santa Fe Artist Getaway in 2019 in the former studios of standout husband-and-wife painters Elias Rivera and Susan Contreras. Students can choose from sessions in visual art, dance, writing, and yoga. Longer residencies are available on-site.

Stitch-n-Pines Retreat Center, in Alto, is a crafty nature-lover’s dream, with a lineup of specialized classes and open retreat dates for people who are working on quilting, knitting, crocheting, or other projects. A house on the property sleeps up to nine people, with a two-night minimum stay for retreats.

Taos Art School limits class size to 12 and hosts several Creative Expeditions road trips every year in addition to a regular schedule of visual arts workshops.
