A FORMER REPORTER and producer for BBC News, Kate Noble serves as president and CEO of Growing Up New Mexico, a nonprofit that provides early childhood and family-centered programs in Santa Fe and Río Arriba counties. In 2009, the Santa Fe native also founded MIX Santa Fe, an effort to promote networking and connection among artists, businesspeople, and others.
FAMILY FIRST. As a mother of a 15-year-old son, Noble understands the importance of her work with children and families. “This is the place that all my paths led to,” she says, “education, community and economic development, working with multiple generations and impacting generations.”
SUPPORT SYSTEM. Noble worked for six years in economic development under Santa Fe Mayor David Coss. “He was truly about people, community, and equity for those who need more support,” she says. “He was a great inspiration for me.”
PIVOTAL DECISION. The day after the 2016 presidential election, Noble decided to run for school board. “I found myself thinking that public education is a solution I need to work on,” she says. “So much is about our education system, how we shape and support humans to grow into the future workforce.”
BEST POLICY. Noble’s first career as a BBC world news reporter and producer in New York covering business and economics taught her how good companies thrive with strong cultures. “Be honest about what is working and what isn’t. I believe if you have that honesty, you will have success.”
ADVICE TO OTHERS. “Do something,” she says. “Pick the thing that lights you up. When you fight for something, there’s no wrong answer.”
