CONFUSED COWS
When Steve Bublitz of Los Alamos stopped in for a meal at Chick-fil-A in Albuquerque, his keen eye knew what was wrong with a poster that read, “Nu Mexiko—Thankz 4 eatin chikin. XOXO, tha cowz.” Bublitz may be a Virginian by birth, but for 15 years he’s lived in Los Alamos and been a loyal reader of New Mexico Magazine. So it wasn’t the creative spelling that caught his eye; it was the Arizona-only saguaros filling the background.
CROW, DELICIOUS CROW!
What can we say? We’re almost 100 years old and our eyesight isn’t what it used to be? We had just finished a honey-drenched sopaipilla and our typing fingers were sticky? That trickster coyote stole our missing word? There’s really no excuse. Somehow we made the kind of gaffe we’ve been joking about for so long. An old page on the state Tourism Department website inadvertently invited visitors to appreciate the historical adobe architecture … of Mexico. In big letters. Right under the iconic twin bell towers of the Santuario de Chimayó. Reader Bill Williams of Roswell let us know in the kindest way. For the record, we fixed it. Umm … anybody want a bite of our crow enchiladas?
A "PRIME" EXAMPLE
Santa Fean Matt Ross had trouble streaming video from Amazon Prime, so he messaged customer support. “Prime Video content isn’t currently available outside U.S.,” they said. “Prime Video content can only be purchased by customers in the 50 United States.” In order to watch, they told Ross he would have to sign up for an international plan. Or move to Mexico.
