A CUT ABOVE ... THE BORDER
A recent trim got hairy for REBECCA SCHULTZ in Waukegan, Illinois, when she mentioned an upcoming trip to the Land of Enchantment. “I wish I could go to New Mexico,” the hairdresser replied. “I’ve never been to another country.” Schultz had a tough decision to make: correct her stylist or let her spend the rest of the haircut talking about Mexico? Schultz says she used her head and kept quiet. It felt unwise to argue with a person wielding scissors.
SYSTEMS ERROR
As a marketing strategy to convince potential customers they need ransomware protection, cybersecurity outfit Spin.AI catalogs recent cyberattack victims on its website. Seeing an entry for New Mexico Highlands University, which was targeted in April, KEN MARCHAND noticed that the Palo Alto, California, monitoring company listed the Las Vegas, New Mexico, institution’s location as “Mexica”—an error on multiple fronts. Talk about bad optics.
RUIDOSO IF YOU SAY SO
A friend in northeast Kansas told VAUGHN NEELD that his Texas-based sisters were going to Mexico on vacation. “Oh, that’s exciting,” said Neeld. “Where are they visiting? Monterrey? Juárez?” His reply: Ruidoso. “Ruidoso is not in Mexico,” Neeld responded. “It’s in the state of New Mexico.” He looked incredulous, then asked, “Isn’t New Mexico just part of Mexico?” Hopefully his sisters know they don’t need a passport. But if they do need any restaurant, shopping, or hiking recommendations, just let us know.
