SHAM DUNKS
In August, NIKE released its new Hatch Chili SB Dunk sneaker as part of a series celebrating different states. The kicks depict our favorite fruit’s maturing process with a yellow-to-khaki-to-green color scheme. Unfortunately, Nike got off on the wrong foot by misspelling chile, while promotional materials touted the state’s love for red and green “salsa” and suggested the tricolor design was a nod to our state flag. We suspect no New Mexicans were consulted in the making of this shoe.
COURSE CORRECTION
STAN FARLEY of Wichita, Kansas, spotted a Facebook infographic about a recent Silk Way Airlines cargo flight from Mexico City to Houston that drifted off course to land in Dallas with very little fuel remaining. But the plane wasn’t the only thing that lost its bearings: The accompanying map placed Mexico City just a tad north—near Artesia.
CHILE CON-FUSION
According to a photo that drew mockery on Facebook, the front window at the Las Vegas, Nevada, CHILI SHACK advertises “Colorado’s Famous Hatch Green Chili.” It’s so wrong on multiple accounts that we have to wonder if the folks at Chili Shack had a hand in developing Nike’s new Hatch Chili sneakers.
