RESIDENT ARTISTS
The artists-in-residence program hosts six artists from mid-May through late October. Each one runs at least one public event. In 2024, offerings included nature journaling, drawing and mixed-media workshops, artist talks, and poetry composed for the night sky. The 2025 artists and their events are expected to be announced in early summer.
RANGER-LED TALKS
Throughout the year, rangers and recruited professionals host photography workshops for shutterbugs looking to up their game, whether that’s more smartly composed mobile phone photos or capturing some of the preserve’s elusive wildlife. Expect an hourlong briefing in composition basics and a chance to fire off a couple of frames on a Polaroid camera at the instant photography workshop. Bring your own camera and a willingness to hike up to five miles for the wildlife photography workshop.
NIGHT SKY VIEWS
Guest photographers lead the astrophotography workshops, talking attendees through camera settings and optimal locations for photographing celestial bodies. A camera with a manual mode, tripod, and a red-light-equipped headlamp or flashlight are required. Previous professionals leading this workshop include nature photographer Stan Ford.
